Stretching Revisited

May 2, 2012   //   by blackbeltgolf   //   Blog, Exercise, Golf, Physical, Wellness  //  No Comments

Today’s secret black belt golf tip involves stretching.  The main goal of stretching is to prevent injury and increase power through flexibility.  How do we prevent injuries when it comes to stretching?  What I have found to be very helpful is to have the body warmed up before I begin stretching.  If I have developed a little bit of a sweat in my warm-up, then stretching for me is not only easier on my body, because there is already blood circulation running through my body which decreases stiffness throughout my body, but also more effective because I am more flexible with my warm-up than if I were to stretch with my body cold.  It is the stiffness in one’s body and them trying to really stretch out their body first thing quickly which actually causes many injuries.  The goal for you is to take your time and allow the body to become more flexible with your warm-ups.  As you become more flexible throughout your body, you will see an increase in your power.  Read more >>

Take A Black Belt Golf Moment

Apr 30, 2012   //   by blackbeltgolf   //   Blog, Exercise, Mental Health, Spiritual  //  No Comments

I find that one of the most important pieces to my workout and my golf game is meditation, which helps focus me mentally for the task ahead.  This may be as simple as a few deep breathing exercises before a round or actually sitting down and spending a little time before a workout.  I’d like you to try it along with me now, and then be sure to add this to your own routine.  Over time you’ll find this an effective way to relax and focus before your own golf game. Attitude and Belief

Feb 25, 2012   //   by blackbeltgolf   //   Blog, Golf  //  No Comments

It is very important for you to have the right attitude and belief when you are on the golf course, as well as off of it.  This is something that takes constant work but the payoff is big – results come from having the right attitude and a belief in you.  However it is just as important to be confident without being cocky.  Whether you have a 10 handicap or average 10 under par, being cocky is just annoying!

Through the Black Belt Golf system, from the training point of view, we work hard on developing the skills necessary in order to have the right attitude and belief.  Part of the training is to receive outside help because unfortunately a person cannot see themselves on the golf course unless they have someone video tape them and they take a look at themselves after the round.  This can be done, but unfortunately a lot of us golfers do not have that person available all the time.   The system starts by working on the outside (the physical aspect) and then works its way to the most important aspect which is the inside.  We feel that it is very important to get the physical aspect down because if you cannot finish a golf round (18 holes) without getting tired then the rest of the training is really thrown out the window.  So first you must be physically fit in order to play 18 holes pain free and without being winded.  Once you have accomplished the physical side, then we start developing the mental side or the internal side.  Most of us golfers know that this takes constant work and development, but over time, if you can have the right attitude and belief when you step up to every shot (from a tee shot to a one foot putt) of knowing you can pull it off, then you are capable of getting the most out of your game.  Once you realize and start working on the internal game, having a mentor or someone you know and trust for help can be vital for faster improvement of having the right attitude and belief system and having a strong internal self.

The main goal of the Black Belt Golf System is to help you to produce your best.  Every golfer is different and has certain capabilities.  We feel though with the right attitude and belief system in the yourself, the best is yet to come!

For more about what the system really in does and how it can help your physical and mental games, the Black Belt Golf Book and DVD is available on this website.

Do You Have Focus?

Feb 9, 2012   //   by blackbeltgolf   //   Blog, Exercise, Golf, Martial Arts, Mental Health, Physical, Spiritual  //  No Comments

Do you have focus? One of the great benefits of being a martial artist is the ability to truly focus.  It takes focus whenever you are training in the do-jo, and there is always an instructor/Master watching over you to make sure that you are properly doing the exercise and that the focus is there.  Even more so during advancement in belt level is the focus absolutely crucial, culminating in the board breaking.  You can have the most powerful technique but if you do not have focus it is all for not; the board will not break because you must hit the exact center of the boards in order for them to break.  This takes complete focus and attention. Where Should I Stretch?

The great thing about stretching is that you can do it anywhere. You can do it at work, in the gym, or at home.  The important thing is to do it!  And if you happen to be on a hard surface, then I suggest bringing a mat along.  Otherwise, the grass is always nice! Read more >>
