The Littlest Golfer

We recently spoke to Kris from The Littlest Golfer about their company and what they are doing in the world of golf.  We first heard about The Littlest Golfer when we did a promotion at Lumpy’s in Rancho Mirage, CA and absolutely loved the line.

So here is some information about the company:

First, can you tell us about how The Littlest Golfer started?

The Littlest Golfer was Truly born on the Golf course. After a move to Asheville, that I was not completely in favor of making, I found myself in a slump, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I did however rekindle my love of golf, and rededicated myself to golf. The more time I spent on the golf course, the better my life was off the course. While my wife was pregnant with our little boy, I became convinced that the best “life lessons” I have to offer him, I got from Golf, and I want him to learn those lessons long before I learned them: “Start Younger, Play Longer”. We also noticed while there are some clothes for kids to wear while playing golf, there was nothing that embraced golf, or tried to bring kids into the world of golf. Golf is a hard game, and can also be intimidating, we wanted to make golf fun! We wanted to give not only our baby all that golf offers us, but all kids! We decided that we needed to be a complete lifestyle brand, with characters that kids can embrace and learn from, and why not use ‘tour sized’ logo’s so that they can feel like a pro golfers! The process has been the hardest thing we have ever done, but also the most rewarding, not unlike golf!

We noticed you have The First Tee listed on your website.  What is your affiliation?  How did you get involved?

We are not affiliated in any way with The First Tee (I think on the national level The First Tee is tied closely to Nike) We love what The First Tee is doing, and want everyone to be aware of The First Tee. we have a link from our site, because The First Tee is important to golf, and kids!

We’ve also noticed that you often are participating in charity events.  Is this part of TLG philosophy?

We are very proud of being a small part of a sport that gives more than any other, and we are committed to helping children’s causes through golf. We learned quickly that many big companies have commitments to charities, sometimes leaving smaller charities, who really do amazing things, struggling. We learned fast, that doing a little bit for many charities makes just as great an impact as doing something more substantial for one charity. Aside from the hundreds of charities or charitable events we have been involved with, we are the presenting Sponsor of the “Fore the Children charity Golf Classic” benefitting the Eliada Home for Children.( www.eliada.org ) Our involvement with Eliada, and what they do in helping children succeed, including using golf as a therapeutic recreational activity, is a huge source of pride for us.

We love your clothes and other products.  How do you decide the next product you’re going to produce?  Is it from requests or do you have a master plan?

We do get some great feedback and suggestions on comment cards we include with our orders, and in fact we are currently working on a skort, after many suggestions.. We are also adding a green to our sandy’s golf polo dress selection.

When we conjure thoughts of golf, it is always the Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, and even Nicklaus era’s that come to mind, so we try to stay true to those images and true to golf. We consider our brand to be fairly ‘fashion forward’, so we really try to keep the clothes classic.

The most important thing we do, is we think about the kids, and the parent or grandparent. Kids hate having their ears scraped when putting clothes on, or taking them off, so on our windshirts, we designed a Velcro closure on the shoulder seam, easy on you and easy on your baby. We also use fewer snaps on our rompers, and line them up so that whoever is trying to do a quick diaper change never has to deal with the frustration of having the snaps not aligned when you think your done, only to start all over! We also produce a baby pique, with 93% cotton and 7% spandex. The baby pique is incredibly soft against your child’s skin, and the spandex keeps its shape so that the shirts look clean and fresh all day.

Our newest shirt, the Retro Polo, is done in a premium 100% mercerized cotton, and comes in an adult version, because our Littlest Golfer families have told us that the kids really do like matching mom and dad, or Grandma and Grandpa.

Any new products coming up our clients and readers should keep their eye out for?

After some major setbacks, out TLG First Set Clubs should be out very soon. The set features a Putter, 7 Iron, and driver. The driver and 7 iron have a forced training grip that teaches the proper grip from the moment the child picks up the club for the first time. The set comes with an Argyle ‘Sunday bag’, and 3 foam balls featuring our logo. We are also developing a children’s argyle golf glove that will match the bag.

What is the next event you’ll be at if they wanted to see you in person?

We will be at the Golf.com world amateur championship in Myrtle beach SC, with a booth in the convention centers “world’s Largest19th hole”

We will also be available at PGA tour superstore’s new store in Denver Colorado beginning this month!
